Why import of chemical fertilizers delayed?

The National Fertilizer Secretariat says that although permission has been granted to import chemical fertilizers, the relevant companies have not yet applied for it.

Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance issued a special gazette notification on November 30 cancelling the gazette notification banning the import of chemical fertilizers.

The National Fertilizer Secretariat stated that although the companies have been permitted to import chemical fertilizers, no requests have been made so far.

 It is said that the companies importing fertilizers will make the relevant requests after re-opening the letters of credit.

The National Fertilizer Secretariat said that they will be allowed to import fertilizer after considering the relevant requests and will also consider imposing certain restrictions.
