The Colombo Commercial High Court has ordered the People’s Bank to extend its enjoining order on the 19th of this month to prevent the payment to a Chinese company and its local agent for allegedly importing fertilizer containing bacteria and other harmful organisms into the country.
The order was issued by Judge Pradeep Hettiarachchi after reconsidering a petition filed by the Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company today (09).
When the case was taken up, the lawyers representing the respondent Chinese Fertilizer Company stated that they had opened the letters of credit of the People’s Bank by submitting legal standards reports.
However, the lawyers pointed out that the suspension of payment was an illegal act and asked for a date to file objections to the case.
Accordingly, the court directed the lawyers of the respondent party to take steps to present any objections related to the case at a later date.
