New covid clusters are emerging from several schools in Anuradhapura

It is reported that most of the students and teachers in the primary schools in the Anuradhapura district are infected with the covid 19 virus. Epidemiologist Dr R.M.S. B. Ratnayake stated that an exceeding in the situation can be expected in the future.

He further stated that covid patients are mostly reported from areas like Anuradhapura Municipal Council, Galenbindunuwewa, Padaviya, Thalawa and Kahatagasdigiliya.

Mr B. Ratnayake further stated that students and teachers of primary schools in Horawpathana, Padaviya and Thalawa have been quarantined.

“We have so far identified six school children as infected. Three teachers have been infected in the last four to five days. Primary school children in grades 2 and 3 who go to school have been affected so far. 40 school children have been quarantined in the Anuradhapura district. We urge the people of the country to restrict travel as much as possible. ” he said

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin says that the government’s decision to reopen schools without consulting teachers and principals is very wrong.

He points out that after the commencement of grades 1-5, the education authorities have taken steps to start grades 10 to 13 on the 8th. This is a serious situation and Joseph Stalin is urging the authorities to reconsider.
