A six-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning while playing in the yard

Anamaduwa Police say that a six-year-old boy who was in a critical condition after being struck by lightning while playing in the yard despite the inclement weather has died at the hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Diyagu Arachchilage Idusara Sanjeewa (6), a resident of Ihala Mahawewa, Mahawewa, Chilaw.

The child and his family were residents of Ihala Mahawewa but they had recently bought land in Uriyawa village in Anamaduwa to cultivate.

It was raining heavily in the area from time to time and the parents of the child were staying in a small hut in the area at the time.

This child fell unconscious due to an explosion of lightning while playing in the yard with another child while it was raining then was taken to the Anamaduwa Base Hospital, police said.

Later when the child was admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital and  He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
