Fuel price will increase from next budget?

Government sources say that the budget to be presented on the 12th of next month will increase fuel prices in Sri Lanka in line with the continuing rising world fuel prices.

At present, the price of a barrel of fuel in the international market is close to US $ 90. Three months ago, the price of a barrel of fuel was about $ 65.Therefore, the Ministry of Energy had repeatedly requested the permission of the Ministry of Finance to increase fuel prices, but it was not granted.

A discussion was also held between Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila regarding the fuel price crisis.

The Minister of Finance has pointed out that it is appropriate to increase fuel prices through the budget. But so far no information has been revealed on how the fuel price will go up.
