Fuel price should be increased

With the increase in the price of crude oil in the world market, the loss per liter of petrol in Sri Lanka has increased to Rs. 14.56 today, said the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Sumith Wijesinghe.

He also said that the loss per liter of diesel is Rs. 31.46. He pointed out that the last time fuel prices were increased, the price of a barrel of petrol in the world was $ 78.8 and today it has risen to $ 92.

Due to this situation, the loss of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation as at August 31 is Rs. 70 billion, he said.

Therefore, the first thing to do in such a situation is to increase fuel prices, he added. He was addressing a media briefing at the Ministry of Energy.
