The Department of Export Agriculture states that Sri Lanka will be self-sufficient in turmeric by the end of this year.
Its Director General, M.P. Mr. Heenkenda states that by the end of this year, the country will receive about 8,000 tons of dry turmeric and the annual requirement of dry turmeric in Sri Lanka is about 7,500 metric tons.
Accordingly, a period of self-sufficiency in turmeric will commence as the wholesale turmeric will be available in the country by December, he said.
