North Korea has tested a short-range missile into the eastern seaboard of South Korea

South Korea says North Korea has fired a short-range missile into its eastern seaboard.  The North Korean ambassador told the United Nations that the missile test was carried out while the North Korean ambassador was saying that no one could deny him the right to defend himself and test his weapons. A few weeks ago, North Korea launched a ballistic and cruise missile test. North Korea recently said it would like to renegotiate with South Korea.

People in Afghanistan are closing social media accounts in Afghanistan for fear of the Taliban

Many people in the country who have spoken out against the Taliban’s policies online have taken action to remove their social media accounts. Foreign media reported that the Taliban had taken steps to deactivate the accounts on social media accounts for fear that they might obtain information through them and cause an accident. According to foreign reports many people who criticized the Taliban on social media are now seeking asylum in the West.

Minister Namal Rajapaksa went to ‘Conversation with the Village’ program in Moneragala District

Many development projects prepared on the request of the people of the Moneragala District under the ‘Conversation with the Village’ program implemented on a concept of His Excellency the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa are already in operation and several other identified projects have been included in the main projects, Minister Namal Rajapaksa said. This was stated by Minister Namal Rajapaksa while participating in a discussion held at the Moneragala District Secretariat to review the current progress of development projects being implemented in the Moneragala District. Accordingly, all the issues raised by the people of Moneragala District to His Excellency the President and the common problems identified by the Public Administration Division for the welfare of the people can be resolved through active development projects in the future said the Moneragala District Secretary at the meeting. During the discussion, the Minister pointed out to the heads of the relevant Ministries and Institutions that a final decision should be taken in consultation with the people and voluntary organizations in the area when planning a development project.  The Minister pointed out that farmers’ organizations could protest against the lack of water for farming during the implementation of a project to provide drinking water to the people. The Minister said that during the implementation of a drinking water supply scheme in the Anuradhapura District, farmers’ organizations were able to take remedial action after pointing out that there was no water available for cultivation.  He emphasized that the development projects implemented by the present government are for the welfare of the people should be managed in a manner that is not unfair to any party.

Has the PCR testing stopped at the airport?

Rajiv Sooriyarachchi, Vice President, Airports and Aviation, said that the process of conducting PCR tests on passengers has not been stopped. The Deputy Chairman pointed out that the media reports that the process of conducting these PCR tests has been suspended and that the newly started PCR laboratory has been closed are baseless. A new laboratory launched to conduct PCR for tourists and migrant workers arriving at Katunayake Airport and it is submitting the reports within 03 hours, he added. The Vice President stated this at a media briefing convened to explain the future activities of the laboratory.

A government has gone bankrupt for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka- Rajitha Senaratne

Samagi Janabalawega MP Rajitha Senaratne states that for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka, a government has gone bankrupt. He said that today the people have no food and the children have no milk and the country has been ruined under the present government. He said that if there was anyone who did not accept this fact, he requested that mental hospitals be set up in their areas. He said this while he was addressing a media briefing at the office of the Leader of the Opposition.

Gas price will be reduced in Sri Lanka after construction of the LNG terminal- Udaya Gammanpila

Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy has stated that the price of gas in Sri Lanka will come down due to the construction of the LNG terminal in Sri Lanka by New Photore Energy Company based in New York, USA. The Minister said that it has started by the year 2023 and after that he expects the gas prices in the country to fall to a record level. He said these while joining in an interview with Bloomberg.

Government will allow import vehicles to country again

The government is focusing on a methodology that would allow the import of vehicles into Sri Lanka. Central Bank Governor says the focus is on allowing people who agree to pay taxes in dollars to import vehicles.  However, he said that further study was being done and that it was not possible to allow the import of vehicles as usual today and tomorrow as there was a problem with the dollar reserves in the country. However, he said that he was ready to consider the matter after studying the existing factors in the future. He further explained that he had already started a special program to revive the country’s economy in a short period of time and that some people would have to go to decisions that they could not be happy with during that journey.

If the minority parties want to leave the government they can leave, the government will not fall- Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa

If the minor political parties that have joined the current government have an idea to leave the government, they can come to such a decision at any time, said the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said he did not want to forcibly keep them if they wanted to go, adding that the government would not fall even if they leave. He said that it was the Opposition that dreamed that the minority parties would leave the government, adding that some in the Opposition were always pessimistic about the government’s activities. The Prime Minister said that the cost of living has gone up in many countries due to the current situation in the world market and we too have to face this situation which is severely affecting us. He added that if the opposition government had acted on a day like today, the situation in Sri Lanka would have been even worse

When will the pandemic end? The spread of the coronavirus is gradually declining.

A group of American researchers have reported that the spread of the coronavirus is declining. The research team showed that the spread of the disease was reduced due to either the corona vaccine or immunisation developed through viral infection. The report, based on Corona data from the United States, predicts that by March next year, the United States will have reached its lowest level since the outbreak. By then, the number of infected people in the United States will be 9,000 a day and less than 100 a day, the researchers said. 

Delhi Capitals lead IPL

The Delhi Capitals have taken the lead in the bonus points table of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament with 16 bonus points . Chennai Super Kings are second with 14 bonus points and Royal Challengers Bangalore are third. Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals are fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the table with eight points each. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad are at the bottom of the table with just two points.
