The government rejects the retail prices set for rice by large-scale rice mill owners.

State Minister of Consumer Protection Lasantha Alagiyawanna states that the government cannot accept the price proposed by one union regarding rice.

He also said that the government would definitely intervene if any party misused the maximum price removal proposed in good faith by the government to protect the consumer and the farmer.

He said that if any party increases the price of rice improperly, it will intervene and the price proposed by one union will not be allowed to become the price of rice in the country.

He said the prices offered by the union to Nadu and Kiri Samba were unacceptable and that it would be unfair for such a society to have a government if it could decide the price of rice. The prices of rice announced by the owners of large scale rice mills today are as follows.

Nadu costs Rs. 115 per kg 1 kg of samba costs Rs. 140 1 kg of curry samba costs Rs. 165
