The allegation of the betrayal of the 2011 World Cup is false .. Investigations are suspended.

The Attorney General has confirmed that former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage’s statement that Sri Lanka’s defeat in the 2011 World Cup final was a match-fixing is baseless.

Accordingly, the Special Police Investigation Unit has concluded investigations based on that statement.

Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Upul Tharanga and several other players of the team were questioned by the police.

Dullas Alahapperuma, the then Minister of Sports, had instructed the Police Unit to immediately investigate the statement.

However, Mahindananda Aluthgamage said at the time that he had evidence of match-fixing.
