Health officials in the North say that opening a bar with the Corona risk in the North at the time when the quarantine curfew has been imposed could put another bunch of people at risk of infecting with corona.

Liquor enthusiasts in the North were queuing up in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi without taking any health precautions due to the simultaneous opening of bars and rumours that the bars would be kept open for only a short time.

Meanwhile, the owners of four liquor stores in the Vavuniya district did not follow proper hygiene measures and the health officials took steps to seal the four liquor stores and a large number of people lined up at the remaining open bars in Vavuniya.

Police also arrived to control the situation and arrested 13 persons for violating the quarantine rules without following health precautions.

Health officials in the North further point out that with the current situation in the Northern Province, there is a risk of an increase in corona infection.
