The government has enacted laws to impose fines on those who obstruct the maintenance of essential services, as well as confiscate their property.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has issued a special gazette notification regarding the relevant legal provisions.

All powers to confiscate their movable and immovable property are vested in the persons concerned after a trial by a Magistrate.
