Several ordinances on children to be amended

The National Child Protection Authority says that steps have already been taken to amend several ordinances relating to children.

Its chairman Prof. Muditha Vidanapathirana says that the relevant bills are being prepared at present.

Prof. Muditha Vidanapathirana stated that steps will be taken to pass those laws soon.

“The age of marriage was 12 years or less for a person to be able to marry with the permission of the clerk. We asked that it be brought to the normal level of 18 years of age. By now it has received Cabinet approval and has gone to the Legislative Department. In addition, the last will and testament so far has been that a woman is 18 years old and a man is 21 years old. As a result, the Cabinet approved the removal of the gender gap and bringing everything to the age of 18” he said.
