Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases says that these days about 85% of the patients who come to the outpatient department for treatment are diagnosed with coronavirus. He also points out that the existing virus capacity of the identified infections is high in those patients.
He said that it was suspected that the infection was caused by the Delta variety and that it could be speculated that the Delta variety was spreading in Colombo and adjoining areas.
He added that the country would face a serious crisis in the future due to this situation. Looking at the nature of the reported patients, a worse situation than the third wave is likely to emerge in the future, he added.
