The government has launched an investigation into the violation of health guidelines in the funeral of Rajendra Rajamahendanaran, the former head of the Capital Maharaja Group.

He died of a corona infection and the decision was taken by the Ministry of Health based on the large number of people present at the funeral.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as well as Ministers have expressed their views in this regard at the last Cabinet meeting.

The President has instructed the Minister of Health to conduct an investigation and submit a report if the funeral was outside the legal framework.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi stated that she has received public compDirector-General the conduct of the funeral with a high turnout beyond the health guidelines.

She said Director-Generaled the Director General of Health Services to conduct a speedy investigation into the matter.

Accordingly, the Director General of Health Services has already called for a report by the Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council.
