Group of Sri Lankan sportsmen temporarily banned from attending tournaments due to consumption of alcohol

It is reported that it has been decided to impose a temporary ban on a group of players and their officials who behaved in an undisciplined manner while being quarantined at a hotel affiliated with the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

It has been decided to suspend the participation of the athletes and the officers in charge of the inter-provincial athletics team in India until the end of the disciplinary proceedings.

However, only two Olympic athletes in the group will have the opportunity to participate, and both will be temporarily banned after participating.

The action was taken following a complaint that a liquor party was held in violation of health safety instructions while they were under siege at the hotel.

A committee headed by Minister of State Thenuka Vidanagamage has been appointed to look into the matter.
