Current economic crisis in Sri Lanka – Government is going to stop importing mobile phones

The government is now focusing on restricting the importation of a number of non-essential and luxury goods.

A number of items such as mobile phones, televisions, refrigerators, electrical appliances as well as perfumes and cosmetics have been suspended.

The focus is on keeping the exchange rate in the country until the country’s foreign exchange reserves strengthen and giving more opportunities to local producers. .

Government sources also say that the limits will be relaxed once the reserves are strengthened.
