The government has denied reports that it will appoint Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister.

Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated that such statements are merely political statements.

He also said that there were reports that another person would be appointed as the Prime Minister tomorrow and that such statements should not be taken seriously by the media.

He was responding to a question raised at a cabinet media briefing.
