COVID Vaccination temporarily stopped

Sri lankan government has decided to temporarily suspend the vaccinations program for COVID 19 with effect from Wednesday night, State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Sudarshani Fernandopulle said.

She explained the reason as a deley of the AstraZeneca vaccines as Serum Institute of India recently suspended exports of the vaccines.

Even the State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation Professor Channa Jayasumana had assured about the receiving the vaccine stocks on time now government is in a fear of shortage of AstraZeneca for second jab.

Government has decided to suspend the vaccination programme as a result of the delaying but the WHO has advised to administrate the second jab soon after 12 weeks of the 1st jab.
