He said that it has been seen that the Chinese representatives are visiting the northern province more and more these days and are engaged in some activities and he said that they can use this as an opportunity to point out that the people of the north are against India.

Inflation in Sri Lanka-30% of Sri Lankans are food insecure- UN

According to the United Nations, three out of 10 people in Sri Lanka are food insecure. In a statement, the United Nations World Food Program says that pregnant and lactating women are suffering greatly in the face of the worst economic crisis Sri Lanka is facing. The statement also points out that Sri Lanka’s under-five children have a higher rate of malnutrition than other middle-income countries. The announcement further states that with inflation exceeding 90%, food security has been hampered and millions of people have become victims of food insecurity.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to China, Palitha Kohona said that Sri Lanka has been inspired by China’s achievements, and have to find its own strengths and work on them to become a country like China in the future. In an interview to Global Times, the Ambassador said that Sri Lanka currently is facing a myriad of challenges, and has many lessons to learn from China. Ambassador Kohona also pointed out that within the last decade, China has developed rapidly and has become the biggest source of foreign direct investment and the second biggest economy in the world, during which time, Sri Lanka’s bilateral relations with China have expanded substantially and have prospered. “Today, we hope that we can use these bonds to advance Sri Lanka’s development,” he said. According to the Ambassador, official and civil interaction between Sri Lanka and China over the last decade has covered a range of activities and projects in both countries, and both populations entertain a positive impression of each other. Ambassador Kohona, while mentioning that China has been a strong advocate of globalization, said that Sri Lanka has benefited from and firmly supports globalization, as globalized connectivity allows countries’ exports to reach more lucrative markets easier. “What China has done under the dedicated leadership for the Communist Party of China (CPC) is remarkable. It’s unique. No other country has achieved the goal of eradicating extreme poverty at any time in history, while China has done this impressively,” he mentioned. Political Crisis in Sri Lanka-The Sri Lankan government has lost its majority in 04 seats.

With 13 MPs who represented the ruling party taking seats in the opposition in Parliament, the number of MPs supporting the ruling party has dropped to 100. There are currently 108 MPs representing the opposition. Accordingly, the government officially maintains the majority with a gap of four seats.    However, 135 votes were received in favor of Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe in the secret ballot for the election of the President.
