Council meeting about Kotelawala Defense University Act. ended without a solution

The meeting of the ruling party group of parliamentarians chaired by the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday afternoon has taken a heated turn. This situation has arisen due to the discussion that took place between that group of parliamentarians regarding the Kotelawala Defense University Act. Several members of the People’s Front as well as members of minority parties have expressed their views against the bill. As such, the Prime Minister has informed the group that a committee will be appointed to discuss the bill further and the bill will not be tabled until its decision is reached. Accordingly, the council meeting ended without a solution.

Police have drawn attention to a note written on the wall of the small room where the minor girl who was killed in a fire stayed in the house of MP Rishad Bathiudeens residence. It had the Tamil word ’cause of death’ written in English letters. CID officials are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Police are investigating whether the sentence was written by the girl or to mislead investigations after the girl was burnt to death. Accordingly, the Government Analyst’s Department has been summoned and further investigations are being carried out.

Another 29-year-old girl has confessed to sexually assaulting at the home of former minister Rishad Bathiudeen during police interrogation. The girl, a resident of the Kelaniya area, had been working as a servant in the house of former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen for about 5 years and had been abused. The revelation was made by the 29 year old girl residing in Kelaniya by the Pannaradhana Inspector of Police while meeting with Mrs Waruni Bogahawatta.
