Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama has resigned from the Clinical Committee on Coronary Control

Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama has resigned from the Clinical Committee on Coronary Control. It is said that he has sent an e-mail to the Director General of Health Services and the Secretary to the Ministry of Health informing about this. He has resigned, saying he could not agree with some of the decisions made by the committees.  Mr. Wijayawickrama is the Physiotherapist at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.  He said that the closure of the country and the vaccination process were not being done as per the instructions given by the technical committee and that the decisions had been changed due to other reasons and that he could not be held responsible for future disasters as a result.

Schools will reopen soon – Prof. Kapila Perera

The Secretary to the Ministry of Education Prof. Kapila Perera states that schools in the island are ready to open as soon as the green light is felt by the health sector. He also said that discussions are underway with provincial education directors on making schools open. Accordingly, a plan for the reopening of schools will be presented to the Minister of Education after this discussion. He added that about 88% of teachers have been given the first dose of the corona vaccine and the second dose is currently being given.

State Minister of Finance Ajith Nivard Cabraal has decided to resign from his post of Minister of State and National List Member of Parliament. He will resign to accept an invitation from the government to take over the governorship of the Central Bank, the sources said. It also states that the current Governor of the Central Bank, Prof. WD Lakshman, will be appointed to a senior post in the International Monetary Fund. The report further states that the government has already been informed that Mr. Cabraal will step down from his current post following the resignation of the current Governor of the Central Bank

A conspiracy build up against Sri Lanka through BBC anf Al Jazeera – Mahindananda Aluthgamage

Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage says international media reports such as the BBC and Al Jazeera report that Sri Lanka is facing a food crisis are a conspiracy.  He said in Parliament that there was no such food crisis in the country yesterday. The Minister said that the country today is not in a food crisis but a mafia and that a special program is being implemented on the instructions of the President to control the mafia and that the state of emergency was imposed for that purpose. He said that the imposition of the state of emergency was not a new thing and pointed out that the state of emergency was imposed during the Kolonnawa landfill collapse during the last government.

According to the reports, Milinda Moragoda has been appointed as the High Commissioner of India with the powers of a Minister. According to reports, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has requested the Government of India to accept Milinda Moragoda’s powers, but they has refused request.  Accordingly, it has been informed that the relevant clauses should be removed and a new file should be sent and it can be referred to the Government of India. According to reports, Milinda Moragoda has not yet been appointed as the High Commissioner due to this situation.

Doctors request to maintain the travel restrictions untill September 18

According to the Sri Lanka Medical  Association, travel restrictions should be maintained until September 18 to reduce further reports of infections. Its chairperson, Dr. Padma Gunaratne, said that the number of reported cases of infections had dropped due to restrictions on travel. She points out that although the travel restrictions are not very strict, it would be more appropriate if they could be maintained as they are or until the 18th. She expressed these views at a media briefing held in Colombo.

An official order reliesed to cease stocks of essential food items illegally stored

The Commissioner General of Essential Services has issued a written order to the Inspector General of Police, all Government Agents, the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Food Commissioner regarding the provision of essential food items in case of emergencies. It has been informed that action should be taken to procure stocks of essential food items illegally at government approved prices and provide them to the people at reasonable prices. It has also ordered them to intervene and report to themselves.

The distribution of local saline begins

Sri Lanka has handed over a consignment of locally produced saline to the Medical Supplies Division. This product is manufactured under the SPMC label of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation. It is planned to use this saline in all government hospitals in the future. Saline imports attract a large amount of foreign exchange per year, which can save money.
