Yohani had a minor accident during a concert

Young singer Yohani de Silva, who is currently on a tour of India, has had a minor accident.  She left a note on her social media account saying that she was hit in the eye due to hitting the guitar during a concert. However, she says that it is not serious and that she will participate in future concerts. “Show must go on! Had an accident on stage during the last performance. As I was so engrossed in the moment and performing for you I knocked my face on the head of a guitar. I didn’t realize that I bruised my face in the process as well. This is the aftermath.”

A New Law imposed on British nationals coming to India

Despite being fully vaccinated, the Indian government has decided to impose a 10-day quarantine period on British nationals arriving in India. The Indian media reported that the law will be implemented from next Monday. The decision was prompted by a dispute over quarantine rules between Britain and India. The British government has said that people who come to Britain with the Indian-made covichield vaccine should be quarantined.  India had objected to the decision of the British government and the Indian government had subsequently imposed the new quarantine law on the British nationals, foreign media reported.

A new drug invented from the United States for covid infections

Clinical trials have shown that a drug made in the United States against the covid virus reduces hospitalizations and deaths by about half. The drug, called “Molnupiravir”, was recently given to patients infected with the virus twice a day. It is manufactured by Merck, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. They say the drug will be approved for emergency use in the United States within the next two weeks. Anthony Fauchi, Chief Medical Adviser to President Joe Biden, says this is good news and that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is investigating the data.

Sri Lanka Cricket Council (SLCC) has provided financial assistance to Sri Lanka Cricket players under the age of 19

. Sri Lanka Cricket Council (SLCC) has provided financial assistance to 26 Sri Lanka Cricket players under the age of 19. One cricketer was offered Rs. 100,000, Cricket said. A 26-member Sri Lanka Under-19 squad is currently training for the upcoming Youth Asia Cup and the Youth World Cup. Sri Lanka Cricket offered them a financial reward for their commitment to their training.  Accordingly, the cash prizes for the 26 players were handed over yesterday and each player received a cash prize of Rs. 100,000.

Boxing champion Mike Tyson enters Bollywood cinema

 Former boxing champion Mike Tyson has joined the cast of a Bollywood movie.  According to the Indian media, the film is titled ‘Liger’ and stars Tyson in a strong role.  The producer of the film, Karan Johar, said this in a Twitter message.

We request government only to close for one week but the government closed the country for five weeks- Saman Rathnapriya

The Government Nurses’ Association states that the government closed the country for five weeks despite their request to close it for a week. Its chairman Saman Ratnapriya says his union did not expect the country to close for so long.  He points out that such a long-term closure of the country will lead to the collapse of the economy and the further collapse of the living standards of the people who earn their living. He further stated that the question has arisen as to whether the restrictions imposed on the reopening of the country are correct. He made these comments at a media briefing held in Colombo. Meanwhile, due to the failure of the authorities to respond to the problems of health professionals, an unannounced strike will be called in the next few days, he said.

A long-running dispute within the TNA has come to light following a letter written to Geneva

As a result of the signing of a letter sent to the Human Rights Council in Geneva, the crisis within the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has escalated. Sumanthiran had not been invited to the discussion held in Colombo on the 29th under the patronage of Sampanthan. The long-running dispute within the TNA has come to light following a letter written by allies to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on issues including the accountability of Sri Lanka. As a result, several TNA parliamentarians began to publicly accuse Sumanthiran, and the TNA commented on the letter sent to Geneva. However, Sumanthiran had not been invited to the discussion held at Sampanthan’s residence in Colombo to discuss the crisis and the TNA’s next decisions.

Sri Lankans living abroad can import vehicle into the country paying the relevant taxes in dollars

It is reported that the Central Bank is preparing to provide relief to Sri Lankans living abroad in bringing a vehicle to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, discussions are underway to allow Sri Lankans living abroad to pay the relevant taxes in dollars when importing a vehicle into the country. Sri Lanka People’s Front (SLPP) Colombo District Parliamentarian Premanath Dolawatta said that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka had agreed to a proposal made by him. He said that after the implementation of this program, vehicle prices in the country will come down and the country’s dollar problem will also be solved.

Price of a domestic cylinder of Litro gas should be increased by Rs. 1200 and a gas cylinder should be sold in Sri Lanka at a price of Rs. 2800- The National Coalition for the Protection of Litro

The National Coalition for the Protection of Litro says that the price of a domestic cylinder of Litro gas should be increased by Rs. 1200.  The gas company has incurred a loss of around Rs. 10500 million in the last 9 months alone. As a result, they say, Sri Lanka will not be able to import gas if the Treasury does not release the money by November. They say that due to the increase in gas prices in the world market and the exchange rate, a gas cylinder should be sold in Sri Lanka at a price of Rs. 2800. They are already selling at a huge loss.
