An easy victory for Afghanistan

Afghanistan beat Scotland in the Super 12 round of the Twenty20 World Cup. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 190 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. In reply, Scotland was able to score only 60 runs. Afghanistan won the match by 130 runs.

A third dose for the people of the European Union

The European Union Drug Administration has recommended that a third dose be given to those who have been vaccinated with Moderna for six months. It is for people over the age of 18 who have been vaccinated with the Moderna vaccine. This is the second vaccine approved for a third dose in the European Union.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Champika Ranawaka states that a permanent famine will be created in the country within the next two months. He said that the famine was caused due to the suspension of the chemical fertilizer project which was carried out claiming to be an organic fertilizer project. He said that the subsistence agriculture in the country has collapsed due to the organic fertilizer project. If the government is unable to raise dollars in the future, power and fuel cuts will be inevitable,he said.

Cyclone has damaged houses in Vavuniya

The District Disaster Management Unit says that 10 houses have been damaged due to a cyclone that affected two villages in Vavuniya.  Rasendrakulam and Suduwendapilavu ​​villages in Vavuniya have been damaged by a tornado caused by heavy rains last evening and only the roofs of houses and property have been damaged. No one was injured as homeowners rushed to safety during the storm.

Sri Lankan government is going to build a Gonpri Formula One race track in the Hambantota

Discussions have commenced on the construction of a 5.6 km long Gonpri Formula One race track in the Hambantota.  According to the Sunday Times, talks between a group of Japanese and Spanish investors have begun. It is also proposed to construct the relevant runway on a government land in Hambantota. It is said that racing cars are being prepared for landing at the Hambantota port and that the sportsmans participating in the competitions will be brought through the Mattala Airport.

We don’t know about the Fertiliser ship- The Chinese Embassy in Colombo

The Chinese Embassy in Colombo has stated that it does not know anything about the ship of a Chinese company carrying a consignment of organic fertilizer that had arrived at the Port of Colombo. The embassy has stated that the purchase of the fertilizer is a business venture and that the embassy has no involvement in it. They said this when media questioned about the ship carrying 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer that had returned to Sri Lanka after it was revealed that it contained harmful organic matter.

A new law from China to reduce the homework given to children at school

China has passed a new law to reduce homework for school children.  Authorities in the country say the new education law aims to reduce the pressure on children to engage in extracurricular activities at home after school.  Chinese authorities are urging parents to give their children a reasonable amount of time to relax and exercise and not to spend too much time online. China also banned written exams for children ages 6 and 7 last August.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has said that if Sri Lanka could be introduced to the world as the only country in the world to engage in agriculture without the use of chemical fertilizers, it would be enough to attract tourists. He added that through this a good market could be created for these products. The President also said that it has the potential to increase foreign exchange. The President said that the guaranteed price of paddy could be increased from Rs. 50 to Rs. 150 today and that was his aim and that it should be targeted. He was speaking while inspecting the Udubaddawa Bunnehepola Organic Fertilizer Processing Center and organic farms yesterday.

Actress Visakha Siriwardena passed away

Film and teledrama actress Visakha Siriwardena has passed away. A spokesman for the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital stated that she had died yesterday (23) while being treated for cancer. She was 64 years old at the time of her death. Visakha Siriwardena, who entered the film industry in 1982, is also known as the tallest actress in the country. She has acted in more than 30 films such as Anuradha, Suraduthiyo, Randamwel and Sandamadala.

Raja Collure has been removed from his position

Raja Collure, the GovNorth-WesternNorth Western Province, has been removed from the post of Chairman of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka. The party announces that the Central Committee of the party has also decided to remove him from the post of party chairman. His membership, however, will continue.  Opposition groups called for a halt to the protests, saying he was considering suspending teachers’ salaries. It is also stated that it has been decided to suspend his presidency based on the relevant statement.
