Pradeshiya Sabha MP killed in road accident

  A woman was killed in a road accident on the Meepe-Ingiriya road. A woman was killed in a road accident in the Angampitiya – Uluketiya area on the Meepe – Ingiriya road yesterday (04). The deceased has been identified as a 50-year-old member of the Palindanuwara Pradeshiya Sabha.

Science teacher arrested for giving the covid vaccine to student

A science teacher has been arrested in New York for giving her student the covid vaccine without her parents’ consent. Authorities said she had no qualifications in the medical field. Laura Rousseau, a 54-year-old biology teacher, gave the student the dosage at home, and authorities say it was illegal. If convicted, she faces up to four years in prison, local media reported. An investigation has also been launched into how the teacher got the covid vaccine. So far, only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for vaccination of Americans under 18 years of age

Bangladesh beat world Test champions

 Bangladesh defeated New Zealand at their  home country today (05) to win the World Test. The visiting Bangladesh cricketers won the first Test match between the two countries by a record 8 wickets at the Mount Maunganui Stadium. Batting first, New Zealand scored 328 runs. In reply, Bangladesh scored 458, with skipper Monimul Haque scoring 88. Bangladesh restricted New Zealand to 169 in the second innings. Fast bowler Adidas Hossain took 6 wickets for 46 runs. It was the best bowling performance by a Bangladeshi fast bowler in a foreign country. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field.

Rajitha Senaratne infected with covid 19

It is reported that Rajitha Senaratne, a former Minister of Health and a Member of Parliament for the Samagi Jana Balawega has been infected with covid. Accordingly, the MP has been referred for home treatment. All those who have been associated with the Member of Parliament since January 1 have been quarantined. It is reported that Mr. Rajitha Senaratne does not have any serious problem and has a slight cough.

Bus fares to go up from today

The increase in bus fares will be effective from today (05). The new fares were recently announced by the National Transport Commission. The minimum bus fare which was 14 rupees has been revised to 17 rupees from today.  Accordingly, bus fares will increase by 17.44 percent

The new relief package could lead to high inflation in the country

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Harsha de Silva says that the relief package introduced by the government yesterday will not solve the foreign exchange crisis faced by the country.  He added that this relief package could lead to high inflation in the country. He added that the decision was taken at a time when food inflation in the country had risen to 22%, according to government statistics.

Susil Premajayantha removed from the post of Minister of State

Susil Premajayantha has been removed from the post of Minister of State with immediate effect. It is reported that this removal has been done in accordance with the powers vested in President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.  Susil Premajayantha served as the State Minister of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Education Promotion.

Permission to import 500 buses from India

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has been approved by the Cabinet to purchase 500 new 32-seater buses under the Indian Loan Scheme. It was approved on January 8, 2020 and bids have been invited from three pre-qualified companies to purchase the buses. Accordingly, the recommendation made by the Standing Committee on Procurement appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers to proceed with the procurement of these buses to be awarded to Ashok Leyland Company of India. The proposal made by Hon. Minister of Transport, to proceed with the relevant activities, was approved by the Cabinet.

A Tik Tok video killed a boy

A youth has been stabbed to death in the Madampitiya Lane area in Grandpass following a dispute over a video on a social media network, police said. The deceased has been identified as a 17-year-old resident of Wellampitiya. The stabbing had taken place in the Madampitiya Lane area yesterday (03) afternoon and the victim died after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.  This young man with two of his friends walking towards the Henamulla Randiya Uyana apartment complex on Madampitiya Road.  Police said the young man, who was following them, was attacked with a sharp weapon by another group of acquaintances. Police say the stabbing was the result of a dispute with the victim over a Tik Tok video.  The suspects have now fled the area and Groundpass police are conducting further investigations to arrest the suspects.

We will take revenge – Iran says

 Iran says former US President Donald Trump should face trial in connection with the assassination of General Qasim Suleimani.  Its president, Abraham Raisi, has said that Iran will retaliate for the assassination Gen. Qasim Suleimani, commander of the Quds Force, the foreign affairs force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, has been killed in a US drone strike in Iraq.  It was said that this was done on the orders of Donald Trump, the then President of the United States and the attack that took place on January 3, 2020. At a ceremony to commemorate him, the Iranian president said, “If Trump and Pompeo are not tried in a fair court, Muslims will retaliate, ”  Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have identified 127 suspects in the assassination of an Iranian military official, 74 of whom are Americans. The Iranian judiciary has informed the authorities of nine countries in this regard.
