Hydro power generation goes down

Due to the declining water level associated with hydro power plants in the country, the power generation of hydro power plants has been reduced to 40%.

Power and Energy Ministry spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena stated that the demand for electricity is likely to increase in the future due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.

He said that at present 55% of the country’s electricity requirement comes from thermal power and the next 5% from wind power and renewable generation.

Meanwhile, the meteorological department has stated that the dry weather will continue till March.
