The country was plunged into darkness last night (09) due to a fuel crisis at two of Lebanon’s major power plants. The power outage comes as Lebanon faces a number of economic problems.
Power generation at two of Lebanon’s major power plants, Al Saharani and Diyar Ammar, has been severely curtailed in recent months.
The power plants have been in a state of disrepair since Saturday due to a shortage of diesel used to power them.
A government official told the media that power would not be restored until Monday. Foreign media reported that the capital Beirut was plunged into darkness due to a power outage.
Meanwhile, the authorities are trying to use the army’s fuel reserves to temporarily operate the power plants.
