What the Central Bank should do is not hide the truth but provide accurate information at a time like that Sri Lanka is facing the biggest exchange rate crisis, Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Senior Economist Dr.W. A .Wijewardene emphasizes.
Normally, the rupee does not depreciate after the announcement of a Governor of the Central Bank, but the rupee depreciates further after the recent statement made by the Governor of the Central Bank, he said.
Therefore, a central bank must be truthful and not hide market information, and then the unnecessary fear in the market will disappear, Mr. Wijewardene said.
He also said that given the current situation, it could be assumed that the rupee would depreciate further.
He said these while joining an interview with a youtube channel.
