It is suspected that a person infected with the coronavirus found in the Madiwela Pragathipura area in Kotte has contracted the Indian Delta variety.
Health officials say he sent his biological samples for further testing.
Arrangements have also been made to control the spread of the virus in the area.
So far, five Indian-infected people have been found in the Dematagoda area and the area has been closed.
