Health authorities strongly against reopening Piliyandala – Patients will die at home

Kesbewa Medical Officer of Health Dr Samanthika Wijesundera stated that she had made a written request to the Director of Health Services to lock down the entire Piliyandala police area.

According to her, even though the area was closed down, the isolation restrictions were later relaxed without her knowledge and currently, corona infections are being reported in large numbers in the area and unidentified patients are roaming freely in the society.

She says some identified patients are being kept at home too late to be hospitalized and if the condition persists, they will die at home.

Meanwhile, Minister Gamini Lokuge states that when Piliyandala was closed no one in the West knew about it and he had asked the relevant authorities whether any relaxation could be made accordingly.

He says that there are no patients were found in Piliyandala and as a Member of Parliament for the area, he has the right to stand up for the well-being of the people of the area and that he has used his right.
