SLSI DG makes problematic statements on foodstuffs with hazardous substances

Dr. Siddika Senarathne, Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute, has found that several other foods contain cancer that causes aflatoxin toxins.

She said she would not disclose further details when speaking of Hiru TV, as it would pose a danger that these companies and products will collapse.

She said SLSI took action against these companies.

She also said that in the past, not only cocoa oil, but numerous other food items including canned fish were re-exported after harmful substances had been found.

SLSI’s Director General has also disclosed that Aflatoxins come from molds.

The mold can be found in coconut oil in dried coconut grains (copra) and aflatoxins may be found in locally manufactured coconut oil if copra with the mold is used for manufacturing.

She also highlighted the need for strict legislation and regulations to heavily penalize the companies involved. Newswire
