The Government Family Health Service Officers’ Association has informed its members to be prepared to give birth to pregnant mothers at home.
Its chairperson Devika Kodithuwakku says that due to the current severe fuel crisis, home births can take place when pregnant mothers cannot be hospitalized.
She also said that she was ready to provide facilities to a mother who is facing childbirth at any time as there are transportation difficulties under the prevailing circumstances.
She added that the notice was issued as the Sri Lanka Medical Council has delegated permission and authority to intervene in childbirth to its membership.
