Sri Lankans have fled away to India due to the severe food shortage

Indian media reports that the Sri Lankan Coast Guard has rescued several Sri Lankans stranded on an island off the coast of Tamil Nadu, facing a severe food and fuel shortage.

The report states that the husband and wife have been giving birth to their son for four months and another woman with her two twelve-year-old children.

They have informed the Indian authorities that they are finding it difficult to get food in Sri Lanka.

They have stated that a boatman had taken Rs. 50,000 and brought them to the island. They told the Indian Coast Guard that many more were waiting to flee to India by boat.

They have been taken to the refugee camp and given food. Further action has been handed over to the police, the report said.
