An American beauty queen has committed suicide by jumping from an upper floor of an apartment complex in Manhattan.

Chesley Christie, 30, lived on the 9th floor of the apartment complex.

Her body was found in a lane near the apartment complex around 7 a.m., and some had previously seen her on the 29th floor of the building.

The New York Police Department says her death was a suicide.

According to media reports, Christie had written a letter handing over her property to her mother.

“Today will bring you peace and freedom,” she wrote on her Instagram page shortly before her death.
