Billions of rupees wasted in the Railway department

Trade Union Alliance has revealed that billions of rupees of public money has been wasted by importing new train carriages in unnecessary quantities at an inopportune time.

“These 160 compartments were taken under the Indian Loan Assistance Scheme These orders were placed in the years 2017,2018. However, even though the former government ordered it, these compartments were brought in on 160 occasions until the end of 2021. There is not enough space to park these 160 boxes in the Maligawatta yard and the compartments are parked in these compartments in remote areas especially in areas like Jaffna and Kannasanthurai. These 160 compartments have not been brought for the needs of the Railway Department. Then these 160 boxes have a lot of shortcomings. ” he said

The convener of the UPFA A.S Vithanage stated this at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (25).
