The world’s largest space telescope ever built has been launched into orbit. NASA says it will reach solar orbit about a million miles from Earth in a month.
NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has left Earth to detect powerful asteroids that illuminate the universe. The total cost of this historic trip is the US $ 10 billion.
The European Space Agency’s Ariane 5 rocket has carried the telescope from the Kowaru Space Center in French Guiana. Considered one of the greatest scientific endeavours of the 21st century, this project took more than 30 years to design and build.
The James Webb Telescope is named after one of the architects of the Apollo moon program, and all US, European and Canadian space agencies, which are partners in the project, consider it a project of great value.
