Foreign media have reported that Russia is preparing for an invasion.
Ukrainian military intelligence says Russia has thousands of troops in the region around its borders.
In response, the Ukrainian military said it was ready to repel any attack and was capable of doing so.
Troops stationed near the border are preparing for an attack in late January or early February, intelligence sources said.
The United States has also warned of a Russian invasion, saying it is keeping a close eye on the situation.
Russia, however, accuses it of being US propaganda.
