A new strain of the covid virus has been identified in South Africa, immunity produced from current vaccines will not effective

A new strain of the covid virus has been identified in South Africa. According to the National Research Institute for Infectious Diseases it thought to outperform the covid vaccine.

The new covid variant is called C.1.2 and is reported to have been identified during the country’s third covid wave since May this year.

Scientists say the C.1.2 variant comes from a mutation in the C.1 variant that was identified last January.

The virus is much more mutant than the first covid strain found in Wuhan, and scientists have confirmed that it shows a faster mutation in a shorter period of time compared to the alpha, beta and gamma virus strains.

Therefore, scientists believe that the vaccine against the covid-19 virus won’t be able to overcome the new viruses effect.

Scientists have reported that further research is needed to determine if the new C.1.2 variant will be more dangerous than the covid variant.
