A proposal by 10 government partners submitted to the president to lock down the country

Ten government allies have proposed to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to lock down the country for at least three weeks.  Accordingly, a proposal consisting of 7 main points has been submitted to the President by those parties.  Athuraliye Rathana Thero, Leader of our Janabala Party,Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Leader of the Democratic Left Front,Tissa Vitarana, Leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party,Wimal Weerawansa, Leader of the National Freedom Front,Udaya Gammanpila, Leader of the Pure Hela Urumaya, National Congress A. Athaullah,   Leader of the United People’s Party ATiran Alles, Leader of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka,Asanka Navaratne, Leader of the People’s Party of Sri LankaGevindu Kumaratunga, Leader of the National Organization for Duty has sigined the resolution.

No patients were abandoned during home quarantine – Specialist Dr. Lal Panapitiya

It has been reported that some people who are under house quarantine for covid-19 infection are acting without proper medical supervision.  The Deputy Director General of Health Services, Specialist Dr. Lal Panapitiya stated that no person should resort to house quarantine without informing the health sector.  Meanwhile, Dr. Geethal Perera, a specialist in respiratory diseases, said that there is a risk of developing mutated virus strains in Sri Lanka due to the high density of covid-19 virus.

A new methodology has been introduced for the management of Covid-19 infected patients

A new methodology has been introduced for the management of Covid-19 infected patients by referring them to treatment centers or keeping them at home from today (19)  According to the National Action Center for the Prevention of the spread of Kovid-19, the new methodology is to be implemented within the Western Province. The process should be as follows. 01. The new system will be implemented through telephone calls and text messages.  02. Covid-19 infected people should send an SMS containing the following information to 1904.a. The nature of the diseaseI. Patients with respiratory distress – A <space> II.Patients with fever – BIII.Patients without any symptoms – Cb. Age <space>C. National Identity Card Number <space>d.Address <space> 03. Medical teams will be notified to forward the information received through SMS to the relevant treatment center by the National Operational Center for the Prevention of covid 19 Disease. 04. After categorizing the information provided by the patients, they will be contacted on 247 and referred to the diagnostic and treatment centers. (Ambulance services and other medical facilities are provided for this purpose) 05. A medical team will be in constant touch with the patients who are referred for home quarantine and will provide the necessary services. (These facilities will be provided through the dedicated telephone number 1390.)

Piliyandala Medical Officer of Health Dr. Indika Ellawala has been infected with the covid-19 virus. The office of the Medical Officer of Health stated that the doctor had confirmed that he was infected during the PCR examination conducted in the last few days due to the symptoms. The Medical Officer of Health has been referred for home treatment. Vaccination programs are currently being implemented on the premises of the Medical Officer of Health. Administrative Public Health Inspector Sumith Mark de Silva said that such a place is disinfected daily and those who come to seek the services of the Medical Officer of Health should not be afraid. Covid 19 current situation in Sri Lanka-The government should immediately close down the country scientifically- JVP

Former Provincial Councilor Wasantha Samarasinghe, a member of the Political Bureau of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) states that the government should immediately close down the country scientifically.  If the government does not take that decision, all public and private sector employees in the country will be locked down the country from next Monday and only essential services will be performed , he said. Mr. Samarasinghe expressed these views addressing a media briefing.

The body of a corona patient who escaped from the hospital was found on the road.

The body of a corona patient who escaped while receiving treatment at the hospital was found near the railway track, according to the Hikkaduwa Medical Officer of Health. The victim had been receiving treatment at the Balapitiya Hospital and had escaped from the hospital the day before yesterday. The body was later found dead at a railway crossing in Madampe area. The body of the 52 year old victim has been taken to the Balapitiya Hospital.

Sri Lanka should lock down to save the public and health staff from the corona pandemic – The Health Trade Union Confederation

The Health Trade Union Confederation is requesting for the scientific closure of the country to save the public and health staff from the corona pandemic. They made this request to the government during a silent protest in front of the Colombo National Hospital. If the government does not close the country by this Friday, the trade unions will close the country from next Monday, its health representatives said. Simultaneously, about 15 other hospitals in the island staged protests.

Covid 19 current situation in Sri Lanka- Trade unions lock down 43 cities across the country

Trade unions in several major cities across the country have decided to suspend their activities and voluntarily impose locks in the face of the rapidly spreading covid 19 epidemic in the country. Following the decision of the trade unions to close Gampaha on the 15th of August, the trade unions decided to close 09 cities including Gampaha on the same day alone. Subsequently, the trade unions of 11 other cities also took the same decision on the day before yesterday (16) and accordingly the number of cities which had been decided to be closed by the day before yesterday (17) was 21. Thereafter, it was decided to close 08 more cities by the afternoon of the 17th and at the same time the trade on Kaiser Street in Pettah was closed. The situation was further aggravated by yesterday (18) afternoon when the Trade Union of Pettah decided to close the second crossroads, which is famous for its wholesale trade of textiles and gifts, for a few days. The number has risen to 22. Accordingly, today (19) Polgahawela Thawalama, Horana, Siyambalanduwa, Thambuththegama, Kamburupitiya, Hatton, Akuressa, Negombo, Kochchikade, Weligama, Embilipitiya, Bibila, Haliela, Anuradhapura, Rakwana, Godakawela, Nochchiyagama, Dambulla and Warakapola, Decided to close down.  Accordingly, 43 cities have decided to close their shops and suspend operations.

The country will not be able to import drugs and the people will die without food- Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena

Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena says that without foreign exchange, the country will not be able to import drugs and the people will die without food. Therefore, the import-export process and public exchange should continue under any circumstances, he said. He said that if the country did not export the tariffs, it would not be able to bring in the required foreign exchange and the people would die without the necessary medicine or food. He also called for the closure of any store under the current circumstances but not to stop the import-export process and public exchange. He added that the increase in commodity prices could not be stopped as the country was closing down and therefore the shops would not be affected even if they were closed but essential services would be maintained and Pettah would not be closed for any reason.
