Covid 19 current situation in Sri Lanka; There are five million corona infected people in the country- Dr. Sanjaya Perera

There are five million corona infected people in the country, says Dr. Sanjaya Perera, Drug and Health Management Consultant. He points out that Sri Lanka is at serious risk and at present the death rate in Sri Lanka is similar to that in India. He added that the daily death toll will soon exceed 100.He says it is a wrong decision to call public servants and that the President is being misled by someone. He is of the opinion that children above the age of five should also be vaccinated in this situation. He made these comments in an interview with an youtube channel.

The time has come to build a crematorium in Sri Lanka that can cremate between 150-200 bodies a day, says Prof. Suneth Agampodi. He says the situation has arisen with the government’s decision to challenge the delta variant of the corona virus. He is a Professor in the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Rajarata University and is well known as an Epidemiologist and Researcher. He has made these comments while posting a statement on  his Twitter account.

75% of the infected people in colombo are infected with covid 19 delta variant- Dr. Chandima Jeewandara

It is reported that more than 75% of the infected people identified within the Colombo city limits are infected with the Delta variety.  This was stated by Dr. Chandima Jeewandara of the Institute of Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. A womans dead body has been found inside a sack in a shop

A womans dead body has been found inside a sack in a shop. Police said they had previously received a complaint about a missing woman and suspected that the body was in the sack. The owner of the shop has been arrested in connection with the incident. A complaint has been lodged with the Valachchenai Police regarding the disappearance of a 55 year old woman residing in the Valachchenai area last evening (05).

Two million doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrived to Sri Lanka

Two million doses of Chinese-made Sinopharm Covid injection were taken to the Katunayake International Airport this morning (06). Minister of State, Prof. Channa Jayasumana stated that the vaccine is planned to be given to those who have received the first dose of Sinopharm vaccine and the second dose.

Sri Lanka reported 94 covid 19 related deaths

Another 94 covid 19 deaths have been confirmed by the director-general of Health Services. With the 94 deaths confirmed, the total number of covid deaths in the country has risen to 4,821.
