The country would return to where it was last May- Dr. Ananda Wijewikrama

According to Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, a specialist at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, it is almost certain that the rise in corona infections is due to the spread of the Delta variant.

He pointed out that there is a significant increase in the number of infected people with oxygen requirements in the country, especially in hospitals in the Western Province.

The doctor emphasizes that it is a serious mistake to be happy that the number of infected people is still around 2,000 per day.

He said the number of patients could rise further if the public health laws were not properly enforced, adding that the country would return to where it was last May.
