Former Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board Vijitha Herath has been appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.

Accordingly, he is scheduled to assume duties on Tuesday. He was appointed to the post by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on the 19th, removing him from the post of Chairman of the Electricity Board.

Jagath Wellawatte was forcibly removed from the post of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and held the post for nearly a month.

Representatives of the Treasury had strongly objected to the stay. Also, even the top officials of the institution have faced a major crisis because compliance with the orders of a removed chairman has created legal issues.
