Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Samantha Herath said that there is a risk of the spread of the deadly Lambda corona, which is another mutation that has spread to about 30 countries around the world. Despite all the planning and monitoring by the health sector in Sri Lanka, the Lambda virus could be infected to one person out of the thousands who come to Sri Lanka from abroad and later centred to quarantine.Also, such a situation could arise as the P.C.R test is not 100 % of variant identification tests, he added. The Latin American country of Peru has identified the deadly Lambda mutant variantfor the first which is spreading even faster than the Indian Delta Corona variant.
CCTV footage released on Nugegoda Car crash released
A car has been severely damaged after being hit by a train at the railway crossing in Nugegoda. Video footage on the accident which was captured by a nearby CCTV camera has been released to the media.
UNP joins China Communist Party Summit
Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe participated in the “CPC and World Political Parties Summit” organized to mark the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. The conference was organized through Zoom. The conference was attended by the UNP Leader, Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena, and Vice President Sagala Ratnayake. The UNP participants were lined to the summit from party headquarters Sirikotha located at Pita Kotte.
“Arrest us” Opposition MPs
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) staged a protest at the main entrance of the Parliament complex today. Party leader and Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa also participated in the protest. The SJB members had staged the protest stating that the Government was violating the fundamental rights of the public to stage protests. “Arrest us if you can, we have all the right to protest taking necessary health precautions,” Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said. Meanwhile, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) staged a protest at the Akuressa Town today. 13 Protesters, including two former JVP local Government members, were arrested for staging the protest in violation of the quarantine law. The protest was held over several issues, including the increase in fuel prices and issues over fertilizers for farmers. (NewsWire)
