Increased monthly allowance for pre-school teachers will be distributed from today
The Cabinet has approved to increase the monthly allowance of pre-school teachers after providing them with certain training. Accordingly, the monthly allowance of Rs. 250 has been increased to Rs. 2,500. The payment will be made with effect from today (01). The proposal made by the Minister of Education to grant the allowance to 25,000 eligible pre-school teachers based on the criteria identified as the first phase, has been approved by the Cabinet.

Four individuals injured and hospitalized after a fight between two fishermen groups; five arrested
Four individuals have been hospitalized after an argument between two groups of fishermen at Iranapalai in Mullaitivu yesterday (May 31) and five others have been arrested, Mullaitivu Police said. An argument between two groups of fishermen in Iranapalai and Matalan areas over the theft of prawns from shrimp cages made by fishermen has escalated to an assault and has been attacked by both sides with sharp weapons. Four fishermen who were injured in the incident have been admitted to the Mullaitivu Hospital and five fishermen have been arrested for assault, Mullaitivu Police said.

The Cabinet has decided to terminate the contract of Olympus Construction Company, owned by Daya Gamage, a former Minister of Power and Energy, who delayed the construction of the second phase of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Pothuhera, Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said. He further stated that this section of the expressway could not be vested in the public on the planned date due to delays in their construction, despite the funds being provided for the construction of the roads without any delay.

New Parliament ministers need vehicles
