Indians flee to Mannar due to fear of corona.

The Navy has repatriated four boats carrying 40 Indian nationals who were trying to enter Mannar to escape the threat of heavy corona in India. The Navy has intercepted an attempt by 40 fishermen to enter Mannar using Indian fishing vessels off the coast of Mannar Due to the Corona threat in India during patrols conducted by the North and North Central Naval Command. Security has been beefed up at the maritime border for 24 hours and the Indian High Commission and the Indian Coast Guard have been informed about the Indian nationals detained at the Mannar border and sent back, Navy said.

Piumi Hansamali and Chandimal Jayasinghe arrested

Popular model Piumi Hansamali and renowned beautician Chandimal Jayasinghe have been arrested by the Fort Police. They were arrested on a complaint that they had held a birthday party at a star hotel in Colombo in violation of the quarantine law. Kurunegala Mayor celebrates the birthday ignoring corona restrictions

Despite travel restrictions, Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa’s birthday was yesterday.According to the reports, Kurunegala Police had prepared a birthday cake for the occasion. The mayor cut the cake and presented it to those present. Senior police officers in charge of the area were also present at the occasion. He further added that this act is against the quarantine law and should not be done by the police.

Nurses are on strike tomorrow

The All Ceylon Nurses Association states that they will engage in a trade union action from tomorrow morning. The General Secretary of the Association stated that the nurses working in the Corona treatment centres are engaged in this trade union action to protest against the failure to provide solutions to the problems they face. He said that although the authorities were informed about these problems, no proper solutions have been provided so far. He further stated that they will be engaged in a trade union action from tomorrow morning till the next day, by reporting sick leave.

Coupon system is going to introduce to vaccination program in Colombo District

A proposal has been submitted to the District Development Committee to introduce a coupon scheme for corona vaccination in the Colombo District today. This proposal was made by the Chairman of the District Coordinating Committee, Member of Parliament Pradeep Undugoda. He pointed out that the coupon system is more effective in overcoming the congestion and some problems that are happening day by day during the corona injection. Police are going to question the captain of the burnt ship

Police Media Spokesman Ajith Rohana stated that the captain and crew of the ship that was burnt near the Colombo harbor in Sri Lankan waters will be questioned tomorrow. He said that the crew of the ship has been placed under quarantine and the quarantine period will end tomorrow. Former Member of Parliament Ven. Baddegama Samitha Thero has passed away due to coronavirus infection. He passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Matara. He was 59 years old at the time of his death. Meanwhile, it is also reported that Panduwasnuwara Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman RPD Sunil Jayaweera has died due to a corona infection. He was admitted to the IDH in Colombo due to a virus infection. He died while receiving treatment at the hospital. He was 60 years old at the time of his death.
