Economic crisis in Sri Lanka – China donated 2,000 tons of rice to Sri Lanka
The Chinese government has decided to donate 2,000 tons of rice to Sri Lanka. The Chinese Embassy in Colombo announced that the decision was taken in view of the food crisis facing Sri Lanka. The decision was taken as the two countries have been supporting each other since time immemorial. However, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Rubber Rice Agreement between Sri Lanka and China, Sri Lanka has requested that 100,000 tons of rice be provided to Sri Lanka. Speaking to an English newspaper, a Chinese diplomat said that such a request had been made by Sri Lanka but China had rejected the request.
IMF released the report that Basil Rajapaksa refused to release
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its report on Sri Lanka. The report says that the Sri Lankan economy has been severely affected by the corona pandemic. According to reports, it has reached a more severe level due to the loss of tourism revenue and the closure of the country. Today, Sri Lanka has a fiscal deficit of more than 10 percent of GDP. Sri Lanka’s public debt rose to 119 percent of GDP last year, the report said. A controversy arose between Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe over the report at the last All Party Conference. The Minister of Finance stated that this report is only a draft and that the Government of Sri Lanka has challenged it and therefore cannot provide it.
Legal action against Daraz
According to the Consumer Affairs Act, No. 9 of 2003, a warranty period of not less than 6 months should be given for the sale of all electrical and electronic equipment. However, in violation of these rules, daraz, a leading and well-known online company in Sri Lanka, has been selling various electrical appliances without a warranty period and with a warranty period of fewer than six months. The Colombo District Consumer Authority raid unit has taken legal action against Daraz today (March 23) and is due to file a case in the Magistrate’s Court shortly. They told the Indian Coast Guard that many more were waiting to flee to India by boat. They have been taken to the refugee camp and given food. Further action has been handed over to the police, the report said.
Internet bills will be increased
The service providers have informed the Ministry of Technology that local telephone and internet tariffs will have to be increased. Areas in categories P to W will experience power cuts of between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm and from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm for 40 minutes.

Areas in the A to L categories will experience power cuts between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm for 3.00 hours and 20 minutes and between 6.00 pm and 11.00 pm for 1.00 hours and 40 minutes. In addition, there will be power cuts in P to W category areas between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm for 2 hours and 40 minutes and between 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm for one hour.
Economic crisis in Sri Lanka- Fourth death in a petrol station reported in Sri lanka
A man who had come to get fuel from a petrol station in the Mirigama area has fallen unconscious and died yesterday (21). The Police Media Spokesman’s Office stated that the person had arrived at the Co-operative Petrol Station in Mirigama in a three-wheeler with several cans. He had fallen unconscious while loading the fuel can into the three-wheeler. Then the person was rushed to the Mir igama Hospital. There he died. The 76-year-olds is a 76-year-old man.
