The Sri Lankan Indian High Commission has invited applications for four student grants for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D students studies. “All scholarships cover full tuition fees for the entire duration of the course, monthly sustenance allowance, and annual grant for books and stationery,” the high commission noted. It added that it would also be possible for selected candidates to provide campus hostel facilities. The following four scholarships are invited to submit applications; Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme:  Undergraduate courses (except Medical/Paramedical& Fashion Design course) including Engineering, Science, Business, Economics, Commerce, Humanities and Arts). Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme: Masters Degrees (except Medical/Paramedical& Fashion Design course) including Engineering, Science, Economics, Commerce, Humanities and Arts. However, preference would be given to the fields of Engineering, Science and Agriculture. Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme: Undergraduate courses in the field of ‘Information Technology’ leading to a B.E or B.Tech Degree. Commonwealth Scholarship Scheme: PhD Degrees in all subjects except Medical/ Paramedical& Fashion Design course.

Customs arrested a airport janitor with Rs 220 million worth gold

Customs officers arrested a janitorial worker worked at the Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) for smuggling 17kg of gold worth more than Rs.220 today. He tried to smuggle it through a disposal channel. The gold was brought from Dubai and handed over to the Janitorial worker at the airport and they were planning to giving them to a unknown person outside the airport.
