Provincial travel restrictions from today

These people are running their core businesses in Colombo with the help of employees and stay away from Colombo. Police say that a special operation will be launched today (May 10) regarding the observance of quarantine rules in public transport service; Police Media Spokesman, DIG Ajith Rohana stated. A senior official of the Ministry of Health said that steps have been taken to postpone scheduled surgeries at government hospitals and to perform only emergency surgeries as usual due to the overcrowding of intensive care unit beds in government hospitals. He said the move was aimed at re-utilizing government hospital intensive care beds for emergencies in the face of the ongoing corona pandemic. He said the intensive care unit beds in government hospitals were at risk of overflowing due to the new coronavirus outbreak that was spreading across the country these days. The admission of patients coming for surgeries from outside the province to hospitals in cities was restricted due to this situation. The waiting list for hospitals will be extended for several more months due to the postponement of normal surgeries, the official added.
Sri Lanka lifted the palm oil importing ban

The government has decided to lift the ban on the importing palm oil to the country. Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that the ambassadors of Malaysia and Indonesia had contacted him to protest against the ban noting that the ban was a violation of WTO agreements. Accordingly, the situation has been resolved as Sri Lanka has agreed to allow the import of quality and pure palm oil, the Minister said.

Public service under minimum staff from today: pregnant mothers are not allowed.

The Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils, and Local Government states that a circular will be issued today(May 10) authorizing Secretaries to Ministries and Heads of Departments to carry out essential services in the public service with a minimum staff. Govt. Take the responsibility for providing fertilizer for Maha season – Mahindananda Aluthgamage

The Consumer Affairs Authority says it will take legal action against those who sell and hide fertilizer at higher prices. The Authority stated that it receives complaints from the public in this regard. Meanwhile, Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that the government will take the responsibility of providing the required fertilizer for the next Maha season.
