The government has decided on exceeding the retirement age in the private sector

The Cabinet has approved a bill to extend the retirement age of private-sector employees to 60 years. Approval was given at the Cabinet meeting on 23.03.2021 to amend the existing minimum age limit. Accordingly, the Preliminary Draft prepared by the Prime Minister has been further discussed in the Committee on Study on Policy and Legal Matters Affecting the Apparel Industry and Trade Sector.

The government has decided not to increase fuel prices

The Cabinet has decided not to increase fuel prices now. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday afternoon. The Minister of Energy has stated that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will incur huge losses due to the increase in fuel prices in the world market and the appreciation of the dollar. The President has said that fuel prices should not be increased today or tomorrow.

The government is going to sign another agreement with the New Fortress Company America

The trade unions of the CEB state that another agreement is to be signed regarding the power sector in the country. The CEO of the New Fortress Company of America is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for this purpose, says the Ceylon Electricity Board Joint Trade Union Alliance. The alliance says the new agreement is an extension of a recent agreement with the company. If the relevant agreement is not revealed to the country, a massive trade union struggle will be waged, said Ranjan Jayalal of the UPFA.

Ceylon Indian Oil Company is requesting the government to increase the prices of fuel

Ceylon Indian Oil Company is requesting the government to increase the prices of fuel distributed through its distribution outlets.  Accordingly, the Ceylon Indian Oil Company has requested permission to increase the price of diesel by Rs. 25 per liter and petrol by Rs. 16 per liter. They have pointed out that due to the increase in oil prices in the world market, a price increase should be made in Sri Lanka as well.  The company has informed the government that it is making a loss from the sale of fuel in the country.

Fuel price should be increased

With the increase in the price of crude oil in the world market, the loss per liter of petrol in Sri Lanka has increased to Rs. 14.56 today, said the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Sumith Wijesinghe. He also said that the loss per liter of diesel is Rs. 31.46. He pointed out that the last time fuel prices were increased, the price of a barrel of petrol in the world was $ 78.8 and today it has risen to $ 92. Due to this situation, the loss of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation as at August 31 is Rs. 70 billion, he said. Therefore, the first thing to do in such a situation is to increase fuel prices, he added. He was addressing a media briefing at the Ministry of Energy.

A suspicious white van approach near to Thushan Gunawardenas house

Thushan Gunawardena, the former executive director of the Consumer Affairs Authority, has complained to the police that an unidentified group had approached his house in a white van and behaved suspiciously. He said that he had lodged the complaint on the suspicion that his life was in danger due to this. He added that the van had arrived on the road behind his house last Thursday morning. He said that he had parked the vehicle near the back gate of his house and a person who got out of it had checked the gate number and said ‘this is the house’ and a neighbor had informed him that he had returned. He further stated that although he had lodged a complaint with the CID about a month ago that his life was under threat, no statement has been obtained from him so far

Laugfs Gas increased the prise of a gas cylinder

Laugfs Gas also raised its prices from midnight yesterday. Those prices are set at a higher price than the Litro Gas Company. Here are the new prices for Laugfs Gas:12.5kg – Rs.2,8405 kg – Rs. 1,136

Wheat flour and cement price increased

Serendib company has also decided to increase the price of wheat flour by Rs. 10 per kilo. They also say the price hike will take effect this morning. With the government removing the control price imposed on wheat flour, the company is also setting price limits. Cement companies have also increased the price of a 50 kg bag of cement by Rs. 93. Accordingly, the new price of a bag of cement will increase to Rs. 1098. However, the government states that the government will intervene if prices are increased unjustly.

Ruling party party request President to import chemical fertilizers for paddy cultivation, vegetable cultivation and export crops

A group of backbenchers of the ruling party in the Parliament have requested President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to return chemical fertilizers to paddy cultivation, vegetable cultivation and export crops in the country. The request has been made by sending a letter signed by about 40 backbenchers to the President. They have pointed out that paddy farmers are facing a severe crisis due to lack of fertilizer. Therefore, it is reported that they have requested to reconsider this request sensitively.
