Current economic and political crisis in Sri Lanka- Thirty-one individuals arrested for protesting against

Thirty-one persons were arrested by the police, two monks and two women were among those arrested, a police spokesman said. The protest was organized by the Inter-University Students Federation against the Kotelawala Defense University Act. The protest was jointly organized by the Ceylon Teachers Union, the Frontline Socialist Party, and the Inter-University Students Federation. Meanwhile,13 people from Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has arrested including two former provincial councilors, during a protest in Akuressa. They have protested over the increase in fuel prices and the fertilizer issue. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya also staged a protest near the entrance to Parliament yesterday morning over the increased fuel price and fertilizer issue.

UNP joins China Communist Party Summit

Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe participated in the “CPC and World Political Parties Summit” organized to mark the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. The conference was organized through Zoom. The conference was attended by the UNP Leader, Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena, and Vice President Sagala Ratnayake. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) staged a protest at the main entrance of the Parliament complex today. Party leader and Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa also participated in the protest. The SJB members had staged the protest stating that the Government was violating the fundamental rights of the public to stage protests. “Arrest us if you can, we have all the right to protest taking necessary health precautions,” Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said. Meanwhile, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) staged a protest at the Akuressa Town today. 13 Protesters, including two former JVP local Government members, were arrested for staging the protest in violation of the quarantine law. Meanwhile, the second dose of Pfaizer vaccine will be given to people over the age of 55 who have taken the first dose of AstraZeneca in the Colombo city limits from today. Minister of State Prof. Channa Jayasumana stated that there is no need to be afraid to take the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

The government is going to suppress Sirasa media?tesnse situation at parliament
